All Scout Nanotechnology Event

Code

321948
Hosted by the International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) at Northwestern University, Scouts will meet with 25 scientists for an extraordinary view of how science is worked at the cutting edge. Scouts will perform hands-on experiments with nanomaterials and see how high-powered research instruments such as atomic force microscopes are used to discover new properties of matter at the nanoscale. They will also see a glimpse of how those discoveries may have a profound impact on their future. There will be many opportunities for Scouts to meet and talk with the scientists in small groups. Scouts will be asked to prepare a research poster prior to the event and present their research findings to the scientists and audience at the event. Medals will be presented to the authors of the 3 best posters. Research instructions and suggestions will be provided to the Scouts. The event will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Northwestern’s Evanston campus. Science-enthused Scouts in the 6th grade and up are invited to register. Cost is $10 per person, which includes a pizza party with the scientists and a patch. To learn more or to register please email Troop 309 ASM Mike Kleppinger at m.kleppinger@sbcglobal.net. The event fills quickly. We suggest no more than 5 Scouts per Troop so we can accommodate as many interested Scouts as possible.
